This position is established for the purpose of providing developmental work experience to students under the Pathways Program. Emphasis for this position is on gaining knowledge and hands on experience. Serves as a student trainee for the FDIC’s headquarter buildings.

  • Assists the supervisor, Oversight Manager (OM), and senior facility managers in coordinating detailed work plans and procedures, and schedules.
  • Maintain records of inspections, deficiencies and establishes reports.
  • Generates service orders for necessary repairs found during inspections, initiates work orders when repairs are extensive, and prioritizes work to be accomplished.
  • Reads directives and instructional material pertaining to the functions of the assigned
    office in order to be aware of new, revised, or amended procedures for that office.
  • Performs basic computer work and generate routine reports.

Qualifications

Education requirements are established by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for Pathway Intern positions and must be met by the closing date of this announcement.  

To be found eligible for this program, applicants must: (1) be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree seeking program at a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis; (2) have a minimum cumulative (overall) GPA of 2.50 out of 4.0; and (3) be in good academic standing.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional qualifications information can be found here.

Education: You must have completion of one full academic year of graduate level (18 semester hours) education; OR have a Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (as evidenced by class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for all academic work; grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in the major field of study; or election to membership in a national honor scholastic society) Click here.  OR 

Specialized experience: Specialized experience is experience in 1) facilities-related operations and maintenance, repair, and improvement projects, or 2) facilities-related inspections; Also experience must involve conducting research and analysis of data, directives, and policies for reports; and utilization of software applications to create presentations, draft plans, outlines, agendas, schedules, briefing materials, meeting notes and reports.

Combination of Education and Experience - Your current education completed is credited as a percentage of the education required for the grade level and your current experience is credited as a percentage of the total experience required for the grade level. The two percentages are added and must equal 100% in order to qualify for the desired grade level.

Additional information

The applicants selected will be offered an excepted appointment not-to-exceed 1 year, which may be extended as long as the selectee remain eligible for the appointment.  After successful completion of the program requirements and based on FDIC’s needs, the employee may be non-competitively converted to a Term or Permanent position.  However, service in the FDIC Internship Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive or excepted service.

If selected, you may be required to serve a trial period.
